Laura M. Merithew Obituary

Brattleboro - It is with great sadness we announce that Laura Mae “Sears” Merithew, 65, died at Cheshire Medical Center, Keene, NH on Tuesday, October 13th, 2020. She died peacefully in her sleep, with her family by her side, after a short, but aggressive battle of lung cancer. Laura was born on March 14th, 1955 in Gardner, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of the late Marion Morgan. In the late 1970’s, she moved to Brattleboro, Vermont. She worked at the Brattleboro Retreat as a housekeeper for many years. She owned her own business: L&S Cleaning Services, where she cleaned local Brattleboro businesses and private homes. She was an active member of the community. She volunteered for The Hotline, Brattleboro Drop In Center, and, most recently, she was a Home Health Care worker. Caring for the elderly was a passion of hers. Laura was very family oriented and loved her family very much. She made it a point to always attend every birthday party, barbecue, graduation celebrations --any type of family gatherings. She loved stopping at every yard sale, scenic car rides, baking, Betty Boop, Country music, and her favorite soap opera: Days of Our Lives. No one touched the woman’s dishes, though. She cooked every meal with a smile on her face. You could always find Laura with a tea in her hand. She even threw tea parties for her grandchildren, teaching them the art of a perfect tea. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her world and she loved them with all her heart. In 1998, Laura married Jimmy Merithew at the Guilford Grange in Guilford, VT. To Jimmy, Laura will always be her Yellow Rose. They renewed their vows of 20 years in September, 2018. Laura was a loving and dedicated Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Gi-Gi-, Aunt, and Friend. She was predeceased by her mother: Marion Morgan, her niece: Laura Marie Sears and husband Brain Davis, and her brother in law: David Pelto Sr. The family is devastated by the loss of their matriarch. Laura was a strong, intelligent, compassionate woman whose presence and guidance will be greatly missed. Laura is survived by her loving husband, Jimmy Merithew, of 22 years. Her five children: Herbert Scott Jr. and wife Holly of Oak Hill, Florida; David Scott Sr. and wife Tiffany of Guilford, Vermont; Jonathan Scott and wife Sara of Hinsdale, New Hampshire; Heather Aldrich and husband Richard of Brattleboro, VT & Krystal Crandall and husband Grant of Hinsdale, New Hampshire. Eighteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews. Also, her three brothers: Gerald, Roland, and Eddie. As well as her sisters: Geraldine, Delores, Ramona, and Lynette. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to be announced.
