Johny Henry Harper, 79, of Fairfield, IA passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at his home under the care of EveryStep Hospice. As were his wishes his body has been cremated with burial to be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in Johny’s honor may be directed to EveryStep Hospice. Friends may leave online condolences at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com. Johny Harper was born on October 23, 1940 in Fairfield, IA to Andrew and Catherine Dennison Harper. He grew up and attended school in Fairfield before entering the United States Army. Johny proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in January of 1965. He returned to Fairfield and began his career at Dexter where he was a dedicated employee for many years until his retirement. Johny loved his family and his long-time companion, Melvina Shondel. He enjoyed working in the garden at Melvina’s and taking long scenic drives. He was a quiet presence who will be missed by his family and friends. Johny was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Barbra Cook, Viola Harper, and Mary Neil; one niece, Cathy Cook, and a nephew, Kent Cook. Left to share his story are his nephews, Andy (Becky) Cook of Fairfield, IA, Denver Cook of Fairfield, IA, Terry (Charlotte) Neil of Birmingham, IA, Kevin (Michelle) Cook of MN, and Jon (Tammy) Neil of Bloomfield, IA; two nieces, Valerie Harryman of Fairfield, IA and Cathy (Bob) Lathrop of Fairfield, IA; his life-long companion, Melvina, Shondel and her children, as well as many extended family and friends.
