Obituary for William Schmitt William Herbert “Bill” Schmitt passed away in Palm Harbor, FL on Monday, October 19, 2020 at the age of 88, one week shy of his 89th birthday. Born on October 26, 1931 in Rossville, GA to Herbert and Minnie Schmitt, he was the second eldest of seven children. At the age of 20, Bill moved to Detroit, Michigan where he was employed by General Motors. Bill remained with GM for 42 years, retiring as a proud member of the UAW. Bill was preceded in death by his bride of 62 years, Betty (Cooper) and their two sons, William Dennis and Paul Michael. Bill is survived by his sister Patrica Hodges of Alachua, FL and his brother Terry and his wife Betty of Falkville, AL, daughters, Terrie Hohimer and Tammy Schmitt, granddaughters Heather and Alexandra, and 4 great grandchildren. Bill had been an avid bowler, enjoyed horse racing, and travel with his wife Betty and their close friends Cookie and Clarence. Visitation will be Thursday October 22, 2020. from Noon until 2;00pm at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM also at Crest Lawn Funeral Home Burial will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.Obituary
