Longs, South Carolina Mr. Billy Joe Harris, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2020. Mr. Harris was born on June 3, 1936 in Olivia, NC, to the late Grover Harris and the late Jessie Richardson Harris. Mr. Harris served his country with honor, courage, and dignity for eight years in the United States Air Force. After the military, he attended and graduated from Campbell College. He went on to work for Monsanto for twenty-three years and eventually retired as a Facility Supervisor with Air Products Chemical Company. Mr. Harris loved working with children. In his younger years, he coached Little League baseball, football and served as a Scout Leader. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Durham, NC before moving to St. Louis, MO where he became a member at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. He was currently an active long-time member of Loris First United Methodist Church where he served as the Chairman of Trustees. Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Patricia Darroch Harris of Longs, SC; his son, Stephen Harris and fiancé, Amanda Moore of Myrtle Beach, SC; granddaughter, Kylie Harris of Little River, SC; three sisters-in-law, Janice Brown of Fayetteville, NC, Nina Darroch of Bethesda, MD, and Joyce Harris of Sanford, NC; and many loving extended family. Mr. Harris was predeceased by his brother, Charlie Harris and sister, Lois Billings. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Flat Branch Presbyterian Church, 130 Darroch Road, Bunnlevel, NC 28323 with Pastor Bruce Adams and Reverend Barry Barbour officiating.
