Camilla Williams

On July 12, 1947, Camilla Williams was born to the late Louisiana and Luther Jordan in Bertie County, NC. She was the first of their five children. After a year in North Carolina, the family migrated to Brooklyn, NY where Camilla began her public school education. Subsequently, the family relocated to Jamaica, NY where she ultimately graduated from John Adams High School. Camilla earned a L.P.N. degree and her B.S. degree in Public Health from York College. Camilla met and married Edward J. Williams to which this union was born Natalie Jade and Troy Edward who thoroughly adored her. Camilla’s career began in the clerical realm, progressed to nursing, then management in the social services field. She started her career with the Salvation Army at the Borden Avenue Veterans Shelter. Her passion for helping others took her to various assignments within homeless services. After over 25 years, she retired from the Salvation Army as a manager.` In her retirement, Camilla remained active in her Rochdale Village Community. She attended board meetings regularly and supported various committees. Also, Camilla volunteered at many different functions whenever she could. She loved being outdoors, especially getting tanned at the beach. She became an avid gym member and enjoyed cooking. Oftentimes, she would sample recipes from the Food Network for others to try. Camilla was always passionate about her family, especially her children and her only granddaughter, Jade Camille. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends that loved her immensely. Camilla’s love for life and positive attitude led her to be known by many as their “Sunshine”. Her vibrant personality and contagious smile charmed everyone; She was a social butterfly, beloved by all she met. To know her was to love her. After an extended hospitalization and valiant effort to battle her condition, Camilla joined her parents and various family members in eternal rest. She is survived by her children, Natalie Williams-Griffith (Louis) and Troy Williams (Deborah), her siblings, Agnes Mayfield, Brenda Jordan, Sharon Jordan and Luther Jordan (Gloria), her granddaughter, Jade Griffith, Edward Williams, her last two surviving aunt and uncle, Jean McLeod and Clarence Durham, her godmother, Beulah Bond, her goddaughter, Imani Cousar-Smith, her godson, James Harris Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her.
