Robert C. O. Anderson Obituary

Robert Carl Oscar Anderson was born on March 29, 1924 in Escalon, California to parents John Martin Anderson and Amelia (Nyquist) Anderson. He grew up in Ripon, CA graduating as salutatorian of his high school class in 1942. After high school, he spent seven months as a carpenter apprentice in Lathrop, CA. He was inducted into the US Army at Monterey Presidio in March 1943. He was trained as an electrician in the army and was stationed in Paris, where he maintained searchlights near hospitals. He was discharged on 27 March 1946 at Ft. Dix, NJ. While he was being trained in New York, he visited a church in the Bronx. The pastor’s wife was had the habit of inviting visiting service men to her home after church. So, Robert was invited to the pastor’s home following church that day. It was there, across from the dinner table that he met and fell in love with the pastor’s daughter, Norma Malm. They corresponded by mail during the war while Robert was stationed in France. Following his discharge, Robert married Norma on May 4, 1947 and they moved to his beloved CA where they lived in Ripon and later Scotts Valley. Robert worked as a journeyman and supervisor on large construction projects in the CA central valley and in Santa Cruz. Following his retirement from the carpenters union, he worked in maintenance at Mission Springs Conference Center in Scotts Valley. He also volunteered many hours for nearby Mt. Hermon Conference Center. Following the death of his first child, Judy and his beloved wife, Norma, Robert moved to Lynden Manor in January 2014 to be near his son Robert and daughter-in-law Carol Anderson. Robert was known for his love of sacred music. His beautiful tenor voice enhanced choirs and small groups at church. He loved the Bible and never tired of learning as much as he could from “the Good Book”. His children were never allowed to put anything on top of the Bible. He taught high school Sunday school class at his church in Ripon, CA. He was known for his finish carpentry skills, which he used to build cabinets and furniture for family and friends. He always showed his love by service to others. A godly man, Robert had been talking about heaven for years, wondering why God kept him on earth for so long. He was 96 years old at the time of his death on October 20, 2020. He is survived by five children, Jean Klint, Rebecca Mix, John Anderson, Robert Anderson, Ellen Robinson, sixteen grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren (plus one on the way) and one great-great grandchild. Peace be to his memory. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
