Abraham Wondergem Jr., 93, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Tuesday October 20, 2020 at Golden Living Center in La Porte.

He was born June 4, 1927 in Three Oaks, Michigan, the son of Abraham Wondergem Sr.and Margaret (Comer) Wondergem.

Abraham served in the United States Army during WWII, first in the Infantry 6th regiment, then in the 66th tank battalion.  He worked as service manager for HE Jahns, PW Way and La Porte Chrysler Plymouth, before retiring as shop foreman for Diedrich Drill.  Abe attended the Lambs Chapel United Methodist Church, was a member of the La Porte American Legion Post 83 and a 50 year member of the Polish Falcons #564 of La Porte, where he built a hog roaster to use for special events. Airplanes fascinated Abe and he loved going to air shows. He also enjoyed cooking and baking, watching golf, and woodworking.  He donated his time and work to help seniors at their homes by building them doors, ramps and other things to make the home more accessible.

Abraham is survived by his son, Abraham (Janet Ann) Wondergem III of Fischers, IN; grandchild, Michael (Katie) Patrick Wondergem; great-grandchildren, Hadley Morgan and Kellen Michael Wondergem; sister, Joan Larson of Cherokee Village, AR; nieces and nephews.

Abraham was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers and sisters, James, Benjamin, Martin, John, Minnie, Nellie, Clare and Fern, and his beloved cat, "Kitty".

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Monday, November 2, 2020 from 10-11 a.m.  A life celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bob Vale, 1st United Methodist Church, officiating.  Interment of cremated remains with military honors will follow at Lamb's Chapel Cemetery, La Porte. Please remember to bring your mask and practice social distancing.

Memorial contributions may be made in Abraham's name to the Wounded Warrior Foundation, The Tunnel To Towers Foundation, or the Independent Cat Society of Westville.
