Sophie M. Rusnica, 90 of Pattersonville, NY; passed away Saturday October 17, 2020 at Albany Medical Center. Born in Amsterdam, NY on December 28, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Frances Sanlinke Mikenas. Sophie received her education in the Amsterdam school system and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School. She also attended Amsterdam School of Commerce. Sophie retired from the Greater Amsterdam School District, where she was a secretary for many years. Sophie was a parishioner and communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Amsterdam. Sophie is survived by her husband, Thomas who she married April 26, 1953, two daughters, Joyce Neznek (Wayne), and Lisa Rusnica, three sons, Thomas M. Rusnica, Bill Rusnica (Rosanne) and Jeffrey Rusnica (Joanne) all of Pattersonville, NY, one sister Edna Sajdak of Amsterdam, seven grandchildren, Brian, Gregg, Bob, Casey, Kevin, Andy and Jason, one great grandson, Otto and two great granddaughters, Aniela and Zoey. Cremation was held at Park View Crematory in Schenectady, NY. There are no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Thursday, October 22, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 39 St. John Street, Amsterdam, NY; with Rev O. Robert DeMartinis officiating. Interment will follow at St. Casimir’s Cemetery, Amsterdam, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Sophie’s name may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
