Troy Howell of McDowell, Kentucky who resided in Elgin, South Carolina, passed from this life to begin a new life in heaven on Tuesday, October 13, 2020. Troy was born April 7, 1934 in McDowell, Kentucky to the late William Bee Howell and Mary Gold (Osborne) Howell. He gave his heart to Jesus and was a member of the Sawney's Creek Church of South Carolina. He was an honorary Kentucky Colonel. Troy was a hardworking coal miner and welder of 40 years in Kentucky. He was an accomplished bluegrass musician who played banjo. He greatly enjoyed entertaining with music, which sometimes took him traveling across the country. He often played for audiences at the Button Man Museum in Bishopville. He played music for various charity events and fund raisers, even including some television shows. Troy enjoyed traveling, gardening, fishing, tinkering and repairing things. One of the things he enjoyed most, was gathering together with friends and family on Memorial day weekend for a celebration at the head of Frasure's creek in the family cemetery. Any time friends and family got together he would open his banjo case, and the music would begin, he loved that so much! He was very fond of reminiscing about the good 'ole days. He knew many people, but never knew a stranger. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters Vester Howell, Teddy Howell, Edith Frasure, Flotine Jones and Barbara Belcher. He is preceded in death by his first wife Loretta (Radob) Howell of Ohio, and also his second wife Mary (Moore) Howell of Kentucky. He is survived by his third wife Linda McGuire of South Carolina. Troy is survived by his five children Jack (Patty) Howell, William Howell, Cyndi (Kevin) Moehn, Teresa (Gary) Bailey, Susie (Thomas) Shetterly and stepson Francis (Dana) Bartlett. He is survived by his daughter in law Lynn Howell, and his Grandchildren Chris Howell, Brandon and Christy Horn, Bradley, Zach and Jenny Bailey, Craig and Aaron Bartlett, Bethany and Krysta Moehn, and Gabriel Short. He was blessed with many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson Shaun Howell. He spent a lot of time with the nieces and nephews of his siblings. He was greatly loved by many. He will be sadly missed by all his family and his many friends.
