Nonie Shepherd

Iona Marie “Nonie” Shepherd, 88, of Ottumwa, died October 15, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa. She was born January 17, 1932 to John and Minnie Harris Hornick. Iona married Gerald A. “Shep” Shepherd on June 30, 1951 and he preceded her in death on February 28, 2019. A graduate of Agency High School, she attended Ottumwa Beauty Academy. Iona was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her children, Cynthia Ritz and Tom (Judy) Shepherd both of Ottumwa; 4 grandchildren, John (Sarah) Ritz of Louisville, KY, Justin Ritz, Amanda (Eric) Roberts of Ottumwa and Hilary (Jeff) Fenton of Des Moines; 3 great-grandchildren, Aquila and Tirzah Ritz of Louisville, KY and Collin Shepherd of Ottumwa. She was preceded in death by siblings, Lucille “Lucy” Diehn, Frank, Harold, Merle David and George Hornick. Limited open visitation will be 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, October 19th at Reece Funeral Home. Her family will be present to greet friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. Private graveside services and burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Memorials may be made to Wapello County Veteran Affairs.
