John Edward Smith

Age 89, formerly of Bedford passed away on October 15, 2020 at Ocean View Continuing Care, Eastern Passage. Son of the late John and Mary Smith of Halifax, John was predeceased by his sister Jean Jones and his ex-wife, the mother of his children, Barbara Kidd. John is survived by his daughters Debbie Saarloos (George Tanner) of Bedford and Heather Boutilier (Ross) of Mt. Uniacke, 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters Marie (Cecil Adams) of Hubley, Mabel Ann (Ed Mills) of New Glasgow, brother Russell (Charlotte) of Lunenburg, and his life partner and best friend Brenda Mitchell of Halifax. A mechanic by trade, John’s interests involved anything with a motor and wheels, spending many years enjoying fast cars, antique cars, trucks, ATVs and motorcycles. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with friends at his camp in Dean. We are so very grateful for the excellent care, compassion, support and love John received from all staff of Ocean View, particularly in the Seaside Neighborhood. Cremation has taken place under the direction of T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, as per John’s wishes there will be no service. Donations may be made to Ocean View Continuing Care or the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
