Alex Basaraba July 15, 1925 – October 12, 2020 With sadness we announce the sudden passing of Alex at Shellbrook Hospital. Born in Strong Pine to Nick and Annie Basaraba. Married to Mary Badowsky on May 28, 1950 in MacDowall. They started married life in Flin Flon where he was working in the mine. After 2 years they moved to the Badowsky Farm in MacDowall. In 1955 he started the Sask. Wheat Pool beginning in Leask, Wynyard, MacDowall, Weirdale and finishing in Prince Albert in 1986. After a short retirement, he started working at MacKenzies Funeral Home. He was very involved in the community serving on the City Council, St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Knight’s of Colombus, Board of Directors for Prince Albert Co-op, Exhibition Association and many others. In 1973 he started building the family cabin at Nobles Point, Candle Lake. Loved fishing and playing cards, Mom & Dad always had company coming over. He spent the last 6 ½ months at the Big River Health Centre and previously was at River Breeze. Alex is survived by his daughter: Sharon (Bob) Pocha; his grandson: Chris (Bonnie) Pocha; his great granddaughters: Hannah, Brittany and Spencer. He was predeceased by his wife: Mary; his son: Dale; grandson: Ryan; also his parents: Nick and Annie; sisters: Polly, Rose, Helen, Mary, Dora and Eunice; brothers: Walter, Emil, Joe, Harry, Adam, Danny, Pete, Bill and John. Due to Covid-19, a Private Family Service will be held at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, with interment at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Prince Albert, SK.
