Guy Samuel Mathews, age 87, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Pigeon Valley Rest Home following a period of declining health.

Guy was born in Stephens County, Georgia, and was a proud resident of the Beaverdam Community most of his life.  He was a son of the late Paul Russell and Lola Cothran Mathews.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Audrey Liner Mathews, who died in 2017; two sisters, Wilene Brown and Louise Dills; a brother, Calvin Mathews.  Guy was a graduate of Canton High School and attended Blanton’s Business College.  He was employed at Champion Papers with over 40 years of service.  Guy was a member of the Pigeon River Masonic Lodge #386 AF & AM and was a past master of the Lodge.  Guy proudly served his country in the United States Army and always wore an American Flag lapel pin or a patriotic hat.  Every year Guy enjoyed growing his garden.  Guy was a devoted member of Beaverdam United Methodist Church and loved to sing in the choir. He took great pride in serving as the self-appointed custodian of the church parsonage. Guy’s  ability as a handyman endeared him to the Beaverdam Community to help with any needed repairs.

Mathews, and his wife, Sharon, of Canton; one brother, Charles Mathews, and his wife, Rita, of Canton; five grandchildren, Ben Powell, and his wife, Heather, of Canton, Lauren P.
