In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sister Marguerite Reed; brother James Shanley; brothers-in-law Bill Reed and Charles Schmidt.  Bill is survived by his wife of 70 years Roberta Palmer Shanley; children Cynthia (Pete) Beinkampen of Louisville, KY, Jeff Shanley (Melissa) of Bloomingdale, OH and Lisa Shanley (David) of Steubenville; sister-in-law Carol Schmidt of Pineville, NC; grandchildren Justin, Jenna, Stacey and Jay; great grandchildren Carter and Shanley; dear friend and neighbor Sis Brandenburg; brother John (Jane) Shanley of Steubenville and his dog Jake.  Bill graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central and he attended Xavier University on a football scholarship.  He was a member of The Plumbers and Pipefitters Union 495.  He became a member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters in 1950 at the age of 23.  At the time of his passing he was the oldest member and a proud union member. He was owner and operator of Shanley Contracting, Inc., where he was a commercial plumbing contractor and also a Master Plumber.   Bill was totally blinded at the age of 82.  The blindness occurred unexpectedly over only a few days.  Despite having no time to adapt he handled it with courage and grace.  He did not let it stop him and was an inspiration to his family.  Bill loved playing golf and reading.  He read over a thousand audio books.  He spent hours in his workshop and enjoyed music and sports.  He had a special computer for the blind and started guitar lessons for the first time at the age of 84.  Bill built three of his family homes having lived in the last one for 55 years.  Services will be private.
