It is with heavy hearts that we announce Toini’s passing on Thursday, October 8, 2020.

She leaves to forever miss her, her children, Pentti (Linda) Hiltunen, Paul (Sherrie) Hiltunen of Port Alberni and Helen Hiltunen of Coombs; grandchildren, Crystal Hiltunen, Noni Hiltunen, Carli Lloyd, Jordan Hiltunen, Curtis Hiltunen, Tyler Hiltunen, Derek  Skirrow, Brett Skirrow, Karen Leighton, and Linda Kelly; great grandchildren, Codi Smith, Becca Smith, Chloe Lloyd, Sullivan Lloyd, Kim Halcro, Seth Leighton, Ryan Kelly, and Courtney Karrasch; special friends, Berit Madsen, Paula Mantarri, and Itelvi Sirkia; as well as many great great grandchildren, extended family members, and friends

Toini was predeceased by her spouse, Veikko Ilmari Hitunen and her stepdaughter, Anja Robbins.

After immigrating to Canada in 1954, Toini worked for many years at the old West Coast General Hospital in the housekeeping department where she made many lifelong friends.  She loved to knit, weave rugs on her loom, and to pick mushrooms in the forest.  Toini also enjoyed travelling to warmer countries.

The family wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Heritage Place and Echo Village for the excellent and compassionate care they provided to Toini during her time with them.  Also, a special thanks to Dr Damien White and Missy for the years of wonderful care they provided to her.  Their caring and kindness are gratefully appreciated.

A private Graveside Service will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery on Friday, October 16th at 1:00 pm.
