Donald McLean Obituary

McLean, Donald Leonard

February 27, 1934 - October 7, 2020

Dad passed away in the company of his son, Daniel on October 7, 2020 at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, SK. Donald “Duck” was born in Estevan, SK, grew up in Fillmore, SK, married his first wife, Joan and became a father to three adoring children, Dan, Dawn and Kathleen. He moved to Regina, then Saskatoon for his final destination for 61 years. His second wife Charlotte and her children, Andrew, Robert and Angela joined his life, and after Charlotte’s passing, Dad became more devoted to family. He would call his sisters regularly, go for coffee weekly, check on his kids and grandkids, making sure we were all ok. Dad lived life on his terms, right to the end. Enjoy the moment and have fun was his mantra. His generous heart was filled with love for family and friends. Dad’s love for music was passed down to us. Being a long haul trucker for most of his life, having music playing in his truck was his comfort. He drove until he turned 80 years young, and many of his friends saw him as their trucking idol. His other occupations helped him become who he was; police officer, salesman, pipe line worker, and many more. He was also a great cook and often dropped off his latest culinary delights to his grandson which was always greatly appreciated. His love of friends was everywhere. In every gas station or restaurant across North America, there was a friend who knew and loved him. His enormous group of coffee row friends, trucking family and lunch time crew will miss his cheerful soul and advice very much. Donald is survived by his 1st wife Joan, son Daniel (LiLi), daughter Dawn (Wayne), daughter Kathleen, grandson Jeremy, granddaughter Katie, step-children Andrew, Robert, Angela (Mike), step-grandchildren Jenna (Pedro), Michelle (Matthew), Kirk (Julie), 6 step-great-grandchildren, sisters Carole and Margaret (Dan), and many nieces and nephews. He will join his parents, Helen and John, his sisters Marion and Dorothy, wife Charlotte and brother-in-law Joe to Rest in Peace. A Celebration of Donald's Life will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 11:00AM at Windsor Chapel (704 Windsor Street, Saskatoon, SK) with Interment to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Livestreaming will be available at www.faithproductions.ca/livestream  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Diabetes Association, Kidney Foundation, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
