Terence Hammerschmidt Obituary

Terence "Terry" John Hammerschmidt, age 67, of Hays, Kansas passed away Monday, October 5, 2020 at Hays Medical Center. He was born July 21, 1953 in Hays to Clarence and Bernita (Glassman) Hammerschmidt.

Terry worked alongside his dad in the family business Clem’s Inc. for many years. He was also a long-time volunteer at the ARC thrift shop for over 30 years. Terry was heavily involved in the Special Olympics participating in basketball and speed walking and was inducted into the State of Kansas Special Olympics Hall of Fame in 1984 for his accomplishments in speed walking. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Hays.

He is survived by a brother, Mark Hammerschmidt of Hays; two sisters, Sue O’Connor and husband Deron of Hays and Lori Schmidt and husband Scott of Hays; nephews, Cameron O’Connor, Chandler Schmidt, Braden Schmidt, Jason Pfannenstiel and Michael O’Connor; nieces, Keisha Schmidt and Lanie Pfeifer;4 great nephews; 2 great nieces as well as his beloved dog, Ally.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays.

Visitation will be Friday 5 PM - 8 PM with a combined vigil and rosary at 7 PM all at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601.

Saturday visitation will be 9 AM until service time at the church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to DSNWK or Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
