Gloria Dulaine SCHRAEPEL Obituary

On Monday, October 5th, our beloved mother and Oma, Gloria Schraepel, was summoned to her eternal rest by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Gloria Dulaine Dyck was born in Waldheim, SK on November 14, 1935 to parents Silas and Helen Dyck. On December 29, 1956 she married Helmut Schraepel and together the couple raised 7 children.

A devout Christian, Gloria was active in her church and the community she loved. Gloria was passionate about music and loved to sing. With the voice of an angel, Gloria often sang at weddings, funerals and other special events. As a resident of Elkford for 47 years, Gloria’s volunteer contributions were endless and included the Miss Elkford Pageant, the Elkford Christmas Carol Festival, Elkford’s New Year’s Baby Committee, and the Elkford Chamber of Commerce.

Outgoing, feisty and never afraid to “take the bull by the horns”, Gloria used her knowledge, connections and organizational skills to spearhead the Elkford Citizen of The Year Awards Night, Elkford’s Annual Christmas Food Bank, the Elkford House Decorating Contest, and the Ladies’ Auxiliary to Steel, Local 7884. If Gloria saw a need, she was there to do whatever was necessary, always giving generously of her time and talents.

Numerous times throughout the years Gloria received recognition for her outstanding efforts; Air Canada’s Heart of Gold Award in 1988, the Community Service Award from the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 279, and in 1991, she was named one of Elkford’s Citizens of the Year.

Gloria’s charitable legacy will be lovingly remembered by those whose lives she touched.

Gloria is survived by her children: Monica (Don) Wiebe, Richard Schraepel, Ingrid (Marcel), Boudreau, Angela (Hugh) Williams, Judy (Robert) Clarke, Steven (Kim) Schraepel, and Michael Schraepel; 18 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and sisters Olivia (Ross) Hardy and Barb (Robert) Klassen as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Helmut in 1994.
