Alma Mary Hartnett Coldbrook, Nova Scotia Obituary

Alma Mary Hartnett

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Alma Mary Hartnett. Alma passed away on October 4, 2020, in the Halifax Infirmary surrounded by family. Born on June 17, 1932 in L’Ardoise, Nova Scotia to Thomas and Mary (Martel) Peters, Alma was the oldest of six children. Alma was an active member of St. Theresa’s parish and was involved in many activities in the parish community. Alma devoted her life to caring for her family; she was a selfless, kind hearted soul. Alma would not hesitate to lend a hand to a friend in need, and loved having visitors; the family home was well known to many members of the parish community. Alma is survived by her sister Margaret Butler (Gary); five children Bob Hartnett (Debra); Deborah Chipman (Bob); Judy Godfrey (Wayne); Paul Hartnett (Janet); Tom Hartnett (Margaret); eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren and one step great great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband Howard; infant daughter Anne Marie; and siblings Francis, Connie, Rose and Yvonne. The family would like to thank the staff at the Berkeley Gladstone for their support over the past five years, as well as the staff from Closing the Gap, whom Alma had grown very close to and the staff on 8.1 at the Halifax Infirmary for their care and support. Unfortunately, the funeral will be by invitation only due to COVID-19 restrictions. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation, Parkinson Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
