Shirley Gwendolyn Card

Shirley Gwenlyn (MacDonald) Card, 89, passed away October 3, 2020 in Haliburton Place, Windsor, NS. She was the oldest daughter of the late Cecil and Edith (Wild) MacDonald. Shirley always kept busy doing things for others. One could usually find her either sewing, knitting or crocheting. In later years, she knit sweaters and mittens (for schools) and crocheted hats. The hats were given to many acquaintances she made while at Haliburton Place. She was very fond of making things for children and enjoyed their visits. Shirley is lovingly remembered by her sons, Dereck (Janet), Kevin and Timothy (Vonda); daughter, Leslie (Larry Coone); grandson Matthew Abell; granddaughter, Katrina Card; sister June (Doucette); brother-in-law John Strum and many friends in Nova Scotia and Freeport, Bahamas, especially Sherry, Jay, Judy and her godson, Yuri. Besides her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband A. Bruce Card; daughter Chrystal (in infancy); sister Judy Strum, brother Ralph and his wife, Shirley; brother-in-law Ray Doucette. A special thanks goes to all the doctors, health care workers, kitchen staff and cleaning personnel at Haliburton Place, for their friendship and care of Shirley. This was her home for 20 years and she considered you her extended family. As Shirley requested, there will be no funeral service or burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or Haliburton Place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4P 1B9 (902-679-2822).
