Francis Duane Ferguson was born on May 13, 1960 in Pine Ridge, SD to John “Bud” Ferguson and Shirley (Pourier) Ferguson. Francis made his journey to the Spirit World on October 3, 2020 at the Monument Health Hospital in Sturgis, SD. Francis grew up in Kyle, SD on his parents’ ranch and attended school at Little Wound. He was active in football, basketball, and rodeo. After high school, Francis started driving truck for his dad and “Beef” Palmier. Francis also worked on the farm and as a ranch hand before going to work for OST Rural Water in Pine Ridge and Kyle. Years later, he moved to Fort Pierre, SD where he became highly certified as a Class 3 Water Treatment Operator. In 2007, he was recognized for the American Water Works Association’s Operator’s Meritorious Award. After many years of working and managing the Mni Wiconi water treatment plant, he moved home and started his contracting business, “BootJack Contracting” and began ranching again until his sudden passing. Francis was well known for always lending a helping hand. He loved to visit; most mornings you could find him drinking coffee with Avery and the crew at Kyle Grocery. He was a real Jack-of-all-Trades and a master of many. No matter the problem, he was always there when needed. Francis was loved by so many people and will be greatly missed. Francis is survived by his 5 children, T.J. (Heather) Ferguson of Rapid City, SD, Jeremy (Kristen) Ferguson of Eagle Butte, SD, Kasey (Eric) Peil of Martin, SD, Cody Ferguson of Martin, SD and Jesse Ferguson of Sioux Falls, SD; siblings, Linda (Evry) May of Kyle, SD, Wilbur (Gina) Ferguson of Mt. Sterling, KY, Boyd (Cathy) Ferguson of Kyle, SD and Melvin Ferguson of Kyle, SD; Long-time partner of 14 years, Karla Scott; 2 very special individuals he considered his own, Jeff (Courtney) Ferguson and Khloe Scott; and 7 grandchildren that were his world, Ashley Ferguson, CC Ferguson, Aubrey Peil, Kendle Peil, Coy Peil, Kylie Peil and Kolter Ferguson. Francis was preceded in death by his parents, John “Bud” Ferguson, Jr. and Shirley (Pourier) Ferguson; son, Kyle Ferguson; brother, Michael Ferguson; and grandparents, John, Sr. and Alice Ferguson, Wilbur and Emily Pourier. Pallbearers will be Brian Porch, Jeff Red Owl, Dale Vocu, Derrick Hunter, Johnny Ferguson, Donny Vocu, Mike Kieffe, Avery May, Eric Peil and Darrell Hunter. Honorary pallbearers will be All Relatives & Friends.
