Derek Rideout Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of Derek Rideout, age 62 years. Derek died suddenly on October 4, 2020 in Flin Flon after a brief battle with cancer. Derek was born on February 16, 1958 in Botwood, Newfoundland. He was the fourth of seven children born to Vivian & Wilmore Rideout. He was married to Nadine Takacs who was his partner in life for almost 40 years at the time of his passing. Derek is survived by his wife Nadine; 2 children: Candise and Amie (Matt); 3 grandchildren: Michael, Kennedy and Benjamin; his mother, Vivian; siblings: Ed (Lois), Marilyn, Dale (Val), Vicky, Val (Doug) & Melvin (Toni) and numerous other nieces and nephews. Derek worked as an underground miner at HBM&S before joining the family business, Timber Lane Construction and then branching off on his own with TL Sales & Concrete Pumping. In later years, Derek concentrated his work to mainly bobcat and backhoe services. He was given the nickname, “Bobcatman” by children who would stop to watch him work. He always offered curious kids a chance to sit in the bobcat or give them a ride. He played hockey and baseball in his younger years and enjoyed the outdoors and hunting. Derek and his wife, Nadine spent a lot of time at their favorite place on earth: their cabin. They both enjoyed travelling, visiting many countries over the years. Their favorite vacation spot was Negril, Jamaica. A private family service was held October 10, 2020 at St. Ann’s Church in Flin Flon with Majors Al & Barb Bain officiating. Memorial tributes may be made to Canadian Cancer Society at Northern Rainbow’s End, 55 Main St, Flin Flon, MB. The family would like to take this time and thank everyone who called, texted, sent cards, brought food, flowers, for their prayers and other expressions of sympathy. The family would also like to thank Darren & Dadson Funeral Home and Majors Al & Barb Bain. Thank you all for the support during this difficult time. It has been very much appreciated and will always be remembered. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4-7)
