Bertha Calvina Jefferson Obituary

Jefferson, Bertha Calvina, “Cal” – 96, Bridgetown, NS passed away peacefully at Soldiers Memorial Hospital on Thursday, October 1st, 2020. Born and raised in Centrelea, NS, daughter of the late Blanche (nee Messenger) and Calvin Piggott. Cal was a loving wife of 58 years to the late Harold “Ike” Jefferson. She is survived by her brother, William Piggott, Halifax, many nieces and nephews and many new “awfully cute” great grandnephew/nieces from Labrador to California. Cal was predeceased by sisters-in-law, Catherine Piggott, Jean Riddy, Kaye Muise, Daisy Buckler, and brother-in-law Harry Jefferson. Cal graduated from the Horton Academy of Acadia University with a diploma in business and after a short time in Halifax working for the Royal Bank, she returned home to Bridgetown, where she worked at various businesses including Moir Motors, where she caught the eye of young Ike who worked across the street. Cal eventually settled into working at Bridgetown Regional High School, as the school secretary and remained there until she retired. Cal was an active board member of the Bridgetown Baptist Church, she volunteered for the Red Cross and for Meals on Wheels. Cal was an avid Bridge player and loved to bake and how she loved baking sweets. There were always treats to offer when visitors stopped by and until her last days would say, “can’t I get you something”. Cal and Ike enjoyed time at Rumsey Lake and spending time with friends and family but never venturing too far from home, except for the one flight in her lifetime to Vancouver. Cal was fortunate to be able to spend all her years up to the last day, in the home she and Ike built, with the love and support of family, friends and the tireless, devoted care of the home care women from the Valley area since Ike’s passing. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to those women who, over the past 10 years provided extraordinary and dedicated care to Cal. Donations in memory can be made to the Bridgetown Baptist Church, the Red Cross or a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held for family members only. A formal service will be held to celebrate Calvina’s life, when service arrangements can be safely held post-pandemic. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Kaulbach Family Funeral Home, Bridgetown, NS, with on-line condolences made at: www.Kaulbachfamilyfuneralhome.com
