Napoleon J. "Junie" LaPoint

Ticonderoga. Napoleon J. “Junie” LaPoint, 88, of Ticonderoga, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at Elderwood of Ticonderoga. Born in Cambridge, New York, February 15, 1932, he was the son the late Napoleon and Eileen (Kama) LaPoint. Junie’s family moved to Poultney, Vermont, where he graduated from Poultney High School, Class of 1950. He attended Farmingdale Agricultural and Technical Institute in Farmingdale, Long Island, where he studied Ornamental Horticulture. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 and was stationed in Brize Norton, England. Junie was employed with Grimes Floral of Ticonderoga for over 30 years. After his retirement, he began a part time career with Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, where he again worked for over 30 years. Junie was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga, where he served as an usher for many years and also served on the Parish Council and St. Mary’s Cemetery Committee. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 224 of Ticonderoga. He was pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 37 years, Margaret “Peggy” (Benway) LaPoint on March 9, 2003. He was also pre-deceased by one brother, Francis LaPoint and two sisters, Dorothy McGreevy and Theresa McMorrow. Survivors include his son, Kevin Benway, Sr. and his wife, Heidi; his daughter, Kathy Harris and her husband, Barry; his brother-in-law and friend, William “Bill” Benway; six grandchildren, Sarah Benway Kijowski, Michelle Benway Terbeek, Kevin Benway, Jr., Christina Harris, Peter Benway and Margaret Grace Benway; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call Sunday, October 4, 2020 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 5, 2020 at 12:45 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Christopher Looby, Pastor, will officiate. The Rite of Committal with Military Honors will follow at the family plot of St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery. Masks and Social Distancing are required for all services.
