Terry Ronning Obituary

Terry Ronning

TERRY DALE RONNING It is with very sad hearts that we announce the sudden death of Terry Dale Ronning, on the 28th of September, 2020, at Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. Terry was 68 years old. Terry was the only son of Harold and Grace Ronning. He was born in Leroy, Saskatchewan on October 8th, 1951. He moved with his parents and two sisters to Hazlet in 1958. After high school, Terry worked in several locations on the oil rigs. On one of his trips home to hang out with friends, he met a young lady schoolteacher. Terry Dale Ronning married Pearl Ellen O’Neill on July 9, 1977 at Lafleche, Saskatchewan, and lived for a short time in Saskatoon where Chandra Lee was born, while Terry was employed at a potash mine. They moved back to Hazlet in the spring of 1978 and Terry was employed by the RM of Pittville. They welcomed their second daughter, Rachelle Rae, in June of 1980. In the summer of 1981, Terry moved his family to Shaunavon where he started work at Shaunavon Industries, the John Deere dealership, as a mechanic, and Pearl started teaching at Christ the King School. Allan James was born in 1987 at Shaunavon, Sask. Terry continued to work there for the next 25 years, and Pearl for the next 26 years. Terry moved to Medicine Hat in 2005 where he drove tow truck for the next few years. He drove crew truck for Savanna Energy, for a couple of years. For the past three and a half years, Terry and Pearl have lived on Chandra and DJ’s acreage near Seven Persons, Alberta, where he enjoyed looking after the trees and grass, and fixing things and even helping Pearl to grow flowers. He was looking forward to a quieter, more relaxed retirement. Terry was predeceased by his father, Harold Alden Ronning (2003), a grandchild, Aleigha Katherine Willman (2000), his father-in-law, Oswald Gerald O’Neill (1997), his mother-in-law, Lilianne Alice O’Neill (2011), his brother-in-law, Dennis Gale Ogren (2013), and brother-in-law, Reginald Wayne O’Neill (2018). Terry is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Pearl and their three children and their families: CHANDRA LEE (Ronning) Korsberg, DJ and Kenzie; RACHELLE RAE (Ronning) Willman, Trevor, Shayna and Terryn; ALLAN JAMES Ronning, Jessica, KC and Krewz; his mother, Grace of Mission, BC; his two sisters, Brenda Ogren, of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, and Jacque and Brian Roth of Mission, BC. He is also survived by Pearl’s remaining siblings and their spouses, and numerous nieces and nephews. Terry’s work with John Deere extended far beyond the shop in Shaunavon. His time spent helping friends with their “equipment” fixes brought him immense joy, as well as helping them with seeding and harvesting the crops, as it kept him in close contact with many lifetime buddies and friends, as it was only second nature to him to help out wherever he could. He loved camping trips with family and friends and took advantage of every opportunity he could to go camping. Terry’s mechanical ability extended to fixing everything imaginable that needed to be fixed. If he couldn’t find the part he needed, he would make it. He also loved woodwork and would build anything from small spice racks to larger pieces like TV stands and bookshelves. Terry also loved working on vehicles and spent a lot of time restoring old trucks and cars, motors and car bodies, and making old vehicles look like new again. He loved playing cards and any other kind of game that brought people together in a social kind of way, so needless to say, he didn’t have much love for modern technology that seemed to make people more distracted about things that really were not important. All in all, Terry was a hard-working, fun loving, caring, compassionate man who always put family first. He was a great role model to his family and Pearl, Chandra, Rachelle and Allan were always taking up the biggest part of his heart. He was their rock. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. Memorial Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, in care of Binkley’s Funeral Service at (306) 297-2412 or Toll Free at 1-877-BINKLEY. Interment will take place at a later date at Saamis Prairie View Cemetery in Medicine Hat.
