Leona Virginia George

Leona Virginia Knotts George, age 87 years, a resident of Hambleton, WV departed this life Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Friday, March 17, 1933 at Hambleton, WV, a daughter of the late Blanche Knotts Davis and Stepfather, Noble Davis. On July 28, 1951 at Oakland, MD., she was married to Amos Melvin George, who preceded her in death February 17, 1977. Surviving are two daughters, Victoria “Vicki” George of Hambleton and Denise Sherman and husband Mark of Parsons; five siblings, Hilda Kochenderfer, Norma Jean Summerfield, Carol Irons, Donald Davis and Blanche “Bunny” Simmons, who was also raised as a daughter; three grandchildren, Thomas Simmons, Jr. and wife Amy, Bryan Thompson and wife Anita and Justin Thompson and Rachel; four great-grandchildren, Max and Anna Thompson, Miles Thompson and Willow Simmons. Preceding her in death is one sister, Mary Catherine Kochenderfer. She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1951. She was a homemaker and then worked as a CNA at the former White Gables Nursing Home and Cortland Acres, until her retirement. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and flowers. To honor Mrs. George’s wishes she will be cremated. The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Monday, October 5, 2020 from 11 AM until 1 PM. Final rites will be conducted on Monday at 1 PM. The Rev. Gregory Smith will officiate and inurnment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows.
