Polly R. Hicks November 2, 1935 - September 26, 2020 Polly Roark Hicks, age 84, of Mousie, KY, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2020, at St. Joseph East Medical Center in Lexington, KY. Polly was born at Kings Creek, KY in Letcher County on November 2, 1935 the oldest Daughter of the late Parrot and Lona Day Roark. Survived by: Children - Steven A. Hicks, Chattanooga, TN and Beverly Hicks Blackburn (Ricky Rose), Mousie, KY Grandchildren - Amanda (Matt) Holbrook, Mousie, KY and Mary Catherine Hicks, Atlanta, GA Great Granddaughters - Scarlett Polly Cook and Annabel Rae Holbrook Sisters - Lorene Hampton of Kings Creek, Mildred Ison of Cornettsville and Juanita Reeves of Lexington. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to mourn her passing. Preceded in Death by: Parents - Parrot and Lona Day Roark Husband - Steve Hicks Brothers - Thomas Roark and George Roark Sisters - Geneva Roark, Norma Lee Roark, Barbara Huff, Eulene Hogg and Gladys Cornett Pallbearers - Mark Roark, Phillip Hicks, Ricky Rose, Tanner Maggard, Matt Holbrook, David Johnson and Gary Martin Polly was a retired Postmaster of Mousie, KY having received the Service Award for 35 years from the US Postal Service. She was also a life member of Beta Sigma Phi, a member of the Knott County Homemakers, a founding member of the Jones VFD Lady Auxiliary, a founding member of the Jones Fork Community Park, she was recipient of the Personalities of the South Award for Outstanding Service to community, state, and nation, and attended the Mousie First Baptist Church. Funeral services for Polly Roark Hicks will be held at the Hindman Funeral Services Chapel, Saturday, October 3, 2020, at 1:00PM with Rev. Clyde "Bud" Wicker, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow at the Hicks Family Cemetery at Mouise, KY. Visitation will be held at the Chapel, Friday, October 2nd from 6PM to 9PM and on Saturday October 3rd from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Family requests for visitors to wear masks and observe social distancing. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Steve and Polly Hicks donations may be made to the college scholarship fund established by Steven and Beverly at their alma mater, Morehead State University designated for local kids attending MSU.
