Donald Coy Knobel Obituary

Donald C. Knobel, 94, of Casper, WY passed away peacefully of natural causes at home surrounded by family on Friday, September 25, 2020. A graveside service will take place on Tuesday September 29, 2020 at eleven o’clock at the Highland Cemetery.

Donald was born October 19, 1925 in Casper, WY to Kenneth B, Knobel and Alice Emily Coy. He graduated from Natrona County High School in 1943.

Donald joined the Army Aircorp in 1943 serving in WWII flying some 35 missions over Japan as a Right Blister Gunner and attaining the rank of Staff Sgt. He also garnered many recognitions. (I.e. The Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal – 3 Clusters, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the Unit Citation Medal.)

He lived a life of service to his community becoming a firefighter and contributing for 34 years at the Casper Fire Dept where he became Battalion Chief.

Donald will be most remembered for being a devoted husband. He met the love of his life June R. Knobel in Casper. They were married on June 7, 1947 in Casper and together would share 64 wonderful years together. They would enjoy making memories raising a family and spending long hours squaredancing.

Donald was also a friend to everyone who knew him, he was fascinated with people. Donald was also an outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed golf and cheered on the professional golfer Fred Couples. Donald was also a fan of professional horse racing. He had always hoped to make it to 95 and came close.

He is survived by his sons, Thomas Michael Knobel of Casper, WY, Kenneth Lee Knobel of Ruidoso, NM, daughter, Donna June Methena of Houston, TX; one granddaughter and two great granddaughters.

Those who preceded Donald in death include his parents, Kenneth B, Knobel & Alice Emily Coy; wife June R. Knobel; son, Bill Dean Knobelof San Diego, CA; bothers, Charles Richard, Knobel of Casper, WY. and Arthur Robert Knobel of Riverton, WY.

The family asks that memorial donations may be made to Meals on Wheels and the Humane Society of Casper.
