Juanita (Nini) Harris Langston Obituary

Juanita Harris Langston (September 30, 1929 – September 25, 2020) Juanita (Nini) Harris Langston died peacefully in her home on September 25, 2020, at the age of 90. She resided with her son, Patrick, and his wife Susan, in Richmond, Virginia. Juanita was born on September 30, 1929 in Sedalia, Kentucky (Graves County) to Festus Earl Harris and Ruby Jewel Finley Harris. She graduated from Lone Oak High School in 1947. She married the love of her life, Marvin Charles Langston, on January 5, 1952, after a brief courtship. Marvin was home on military leave and rather than wait for the obligatory blood test they ran off and got married in Corinth, Mississippi. As a newly married couple they moved to Houston, TX, where Marvin was stationed in the Air Force. After his discharge they moved back to Kentucky, where their first son Mike was born. Soon after they moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where Marvin would get his MBA from Memphis State University. Two more children joined the family and they lived in Memphis, Tennessee for about 20 years. Due to a job change, they later moved to Decatur, Alabama, when Pat and Lori were in high school. Juanita was a stay at home mom until her children were in secondary school and then worked as a secretary for Harding Graduate School in Memphis, and later as a bookkeeper for Morgan County Board of Education in Decatur. In 1999, Marvin and Juanita moved to Richmond, Virginia, to be closer to family. Marvin died in 2005, and Juanita eventually moved in with her son Patrick and his family, where she was loved and cared for during the last six years of her life. Juanita was a lifelong faithful member of the Church of Christ. She devoted her life to caring for and loving her family. She was hospitable and generous, and taught her children from a young age to love Jesus and follow after Him. She took pride in her family and rejoiced each time another grandchild or great grandchild came on the scene. She was a good sport and allowed us to take funny pictures and videos with her that we will cherish even more now that she is gone. She was a loving wife to her husband, and their relationship was a blessing to the entire family. She has not stopped missing our Dad since his passing in 2005. She spent many years lovingly caring for him when his health declined. Her hobbies included sewing, playing games with her family, reading, and watching games shows and detective shows. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Festus Earl Harris and Ruby Jewel Finley Harris, her brother, Bill Usher Harris, and her sister, Norma Jean Harris Doyle. Her beloved husband, Marvin Charles Langston, also preceded her in death. Juanita is survived by her three children: Kerry Michael Langston (wife, Sharon) from Atlanta, Georgia, Patrick Lee Langston (wife, Susan) from Richmond, Virginia, and Lori Susan Langston Frazier (husband, Jim) from Lakewood, Colorado. Nini was a beloved grandmother to seven grandchildren: Adam (wife, Jillian), Eric, Daniel (wife, Amanda), Bradley, Lauren (husband, Trevor), Christopher and Sarah (husband, Jacob). She also had five great grandchildren: Josiah, Evangeline, Naomi, Lucas and Atlas. Juanita will be buried by her husband’s side in Richmond on her 91st birthday, September 30, 2020. A small graveside service will be held with her children and a few of her grandchildren present. A memorial service will be held at an undetermined time when more of her family can be present.
