Carmen Joy Turning Robe Obituary

Natoyipitakii – Holy Eagle Woman - Carmen Joy Turning Robe, was born on July 24, 1981 in Calgary, AB and left us too soon on September 20, 2020 at the age of 39 years. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, wife, ex-wife, traditional daughter, auntie, sister, cousin, niece and friend, at her home with her beloved Harley at her side.

Carmen’s accomplishments included her High School diploma from OSCC; a Certificate of Completion in Customer Relations from SAIT 2018; Volunteer of the Year at Chief Crowfoot School in Recognition of Outstanding Services 2019; Certificate from Alberta Woman Entrepreneurs - Next Step to Success Business Plan Learning Series September 2019; and a Certificate of Recognition in Indigenous Business Builder Series 2019. Carmen was employed at various businesses on Siksika Nation; BCHP, Siksika Public Works, Arrowhead Gas Station and Siksika Trail Market. Carmen was actively developing her small business in East Siksika and had a registered business, Crowfoot Convenience store while she ran a small business from her home for her community. She had also attended the Matrix program and “Seek Ye First”, was the theme when she joined the Cursillo movement.

Carmen was a caring, loving, humble person and helped family and friends, whomever was in need and never left anyone out. Carmen was lovingly nicknamed “Woodstock” by her family, her uncles named her this because when she was a baby, her hair had always stood up. She had a love for water and visited the river and Bassano Dam often. She liked the Christmas holidays and had a passion for Halloween and creepy things like frogs. She was an avid Edmonton Oilers fan and liked listening to music. She especially expressed her infatuation for the late musician, Chris Cornell from the band Audioslave, so much so, that she had his initials tattooed on her arm and even went to visit his grave in Los Angeles, CA. She loved being around close family and friends, travelling, eating chicken wings and salad, working, celebrating her daughter’s birthdays, attending Christmas concerts and graduations. Carmen disliked thieves, negative people, Calgary Flames, people being mistreated and bullied, being bothered while she was sleeping, especially annoying knocks on her door late at night and dealing with “stupid people”, as she put it and people messing with her family and friends.

Lord if roses grow in heaven, please pick a bunch for us and place them in our mommy’s arms and tell her they are from her son Kayne Yellowfly, her beloved daughters Jadon & Harlyn Turning Robe-WolfLeg and our dads, Scott Wolf Leg and Harley Running Rabbit. Tell her that we love and miss her dearly and when she turns around to smile, place a kiss on her cheek and hold her for awhile because remembering her will be easy and we will every day but there will be an ache in our hearts that will never go away.

She also leaves to mourn her beloved Auntie/Mom Stella Turning Robe, brothers, Frank (Tessa) Turning Robe III, Alden (Nikki) Big Old Man, Dean, Aaron (Stephanie) & Clinton Turning Robe, sisters Carolyn (Tennie), Yvette & Rose Turning Robe. Special nephew Cecil Atom Yellowfly. Nieces and nephews, Miranda (Colton), Tyrel (Billie Jo), Isabel, Claudia, Matthias (Hannah), Joshua, Jade, Ava, Sophia, James, Eva Mae, Damian, Teegan, Gavin & Marcus & God son Lennon Turning Robe. Stepdad Stanley Water Chief, brother in law Bruce Healy and in laws, Clarence (Agar) & Fran Wolf Leg & Norman & Elizabeth Running Rabbit.
