David Larry Johnson

David Larry Johnson, age 85, passed away on September 25, 2020 in Longview, Texas. He was born on November 17, 1934 in Cayuga, Texas to Robert Sutton Johnson and Dorval (Conard) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Darren Johnson; brothers, James Johnson and Conard Johnson; granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Darnell. David graduated from Cayuga Hight School where he played basketball and American Legion baseball. He also played in a semi-pro baseball team in Van, Texas. He graduated from East Texas State University with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He spent 10 years with Getty Oil in Louisiana and Houston, Texas before moving back home. He then became the co-founder of Athens Steel. David loved his family. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his daughters, Cheryl Fields and husband James, Denise Jones and husband Harold, Kandace McAdams and husband Ethan; son, Derek Johnson; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; brother; Hal Johnson and wife Patty, along with numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the East Texas Alzheimer’s Alliance 911 NW Loop 281 Ste 211 Longview, Texas 75604. There will be a private family burial at Judson Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
