Obituary

We lost our brother and dear friend Saturday, September 12, 2020.

Tobin Wayne Seath was born and raised on Vashon. He was the third child of the late Valerie and Gene Seath.  He attended local island schools along with Vashon’s class of 1991 graduating from Shoreline Community College with his high school diploma early and went on to earn a Liberal Art’s degree a short time later.

While on the island, he participated in local theater with Vashon’s Youth Theater Project and spent a summer or two working an orchard owned by a cousin in eastern Washington.  Later, Tobin enjoyed a brief stint as a counselor’s assistant with an “outward bound” type camp helping at risk youth.

Tobin will be remembered for his love of fantasy novels, both reading and writing them, Wolverine comics, and video games.  He played youth soccer, baseball and liked BMX bikes and skateboards.  Tobin skied a great deal as a boy, riding the Vashon ski bus with friends, and became adept at jumps and tricks, later taking up snowboarding. He was very fond of classic rock and was a  serious a movie buff and collector who would have given Siskel and Ebert a run for their money.

Later in life Tobin, worked as a creator and chef and in various restaurants in the Seattle area and other parts of the country.  He was passionate about keeping “one’s knives sharp and ready at all times”.  Part of his passion for cooking involved both collecting and creating recipes as well as his commitment to proper technique.  Tobin could be quite funny and sweet, a side of himself he shared with his two young nieces.  He loved camping, his kittens, and celebrating the holidays (when he was not busy in the kitchen so others could enjoy theirs).

Tobin is survived by his sister and brother; Shannon Seath Meyer of Vashon, Kyle Seath of Boise, Idaho, his brother-in-law Michael Meyer, his two nieces and many dear friends who continued to reach out and care for him to the end.

To honor Tobin and his struggles with substance abuse and mental health issues, the family suggests making a donation to VARSA or Vashon Youth and Family Services.
