John H. Morris Obituary

John H. Morris

John "Jack" Harold Morris currently of Dubuque, passed away of natural causes, surrounded by family, at the age of 96, on September 25, 2020 John "Jack" Morris was born and raised in Jackson Heights, New York. He served his country honorably in WWII in the Army Air Corps,- in the 8th Air Force, stationed in England. He was a Waist Gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress, successfully completing 25 combat missions. When the war ended he returned home. In short order, he completed four years at The Wharton School of Business at The University of Pennsylvania. Over the next 20 years he became an Advertising Executive on Madison Avenue, while raising his family on Long Island. Upon retirement, he and his wife of 64 years {his one and only love}, Pat moved to Maine, to a beautiful 16 acre spot, located on a cove, with wonderful views everyday. Jack loved living in Maine, and the 33 years he spent there were truly happy. In 2014 Pat passed away from natural causes. Jack then moved to Dubuque to be closer to his daughters and extended family. Jack loved sailing. He, along with Pat built several single and multi-hulled boats. They enjoyed sailing in the Great South Bay, around Manhattan, and along the New England coastline. He also enjoyed tennis in his early years, and golf in his later years. John spent four happy years in Dubuque, feeling that he was truly fortunate to live here. His life was full of multiple accomplishments, and although his generation was labeled “the Greatest Generation”, he considered himself to be part of “The Luckiest Generation”. He always felt that his greatest and lasting accomplishment was the strong and loving family he and his wife Pat created. He was preceded in death by parents Edna and John, older sister Joan, and twin sister Edna, Brother In-Law’s John and Alex. He is survived by one older sister, Betty; daughters Joan {Morris} Miller-husband Richard and Marian Morris; three grandchildren: Matthew {Tisha} Miller, David {Mayia} Miller, and Mariah Kammerude {Troy}; six great grandchildren: Grayson and Blake, William and Elizabeth, Vanessa and Natalie. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Croix Hospice of Strawberry Point, for their outstanding support and care over the last two years, with a special thank-you to Cathleen RN, and Amanda CNA. <iframe class="ts_player" allowfullscreen="true" allowtransparency="true" allow="autoplay; fullscreen" frameborder="0" height="330" scrolling="no" src="https://www.tributeslides.com/videos/embedded_video/TKNB4LB4SZCZMJNT" width="512"></iframe>
