Jacob Leonard Loewen Obituary

My Husband, our Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa, Leonard Loewen, was born to Benjamin D. and Margaret (Barkman) Loewen on June 13, 1933 at Swalwell, Alberta. He peacefully passed away at the Westview Care Community, reaching the age of 87 years. Dad grew up on the family farm together with his 4 brothers and 1 sister. He enjoyed learning and attended the New Hope school all of his school years. Dad gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized at the age of 11 into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. His faith was precious to him. Dad married Edna Esau on October 31, 1954 at Linden, Alberta and they enjoyed almost 66 years together. He was one of 4 brothers that married 4 sisters. Their home was blest with three daughters. Dad ran a gravel crusher for several years, living in a tiny trailer in gravel pits. After that he owned a trucking company for a short time until the opportunity came to farm, which became his life long passion, providing well for his family. He made the best of what life handed him. Dad and Mom lived on the farm until they retired to the town of Linden. They loved to travel and especially enjoyed visiting their children and grandchildren. In 2015 Dad suffered a stroke which resulted in his move to Westview Care Community. We as a family are so grateful for the love and care he received there. In their early years of married life they spent a term at Sunchild Mission. In March of 1965 Dad was ordained as a deacon and served faithfully until his retirement. He served numerous years on the Northern District Mission Board and the General Mission Board and enjoyed being responsible for the mission work in Europe, making lasting friendships. His wealth of knowledge and his memory was of interest to people and he spent time visiting with neighbors and friends, becoming a mentor to many. Dad was special to all his children and grandchildren and we often went to him for advice. Those left to cherish precious memories are: his loving wife, Edna, his daughters: Brenda and Les Regehr, Delisle, SK; Carol and Les Klassen, Linden, AB; Candis and Verlin Jantz, McLeese Lake, BC. Eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Siblings: Jesse and Diane Loewen; Ron and Norma Loewen; Vern and Deanna Loewen; Eileen and Harvey Toews; Bob and Edith Loewen. Brothers-in-law: Harold Esau; Allan and Marlyne Esau; Fred and Bernice Esau; Elmer and Joanne Esau; sisters-in-law Wilma Esau, Alice Esau and Lorraine Esau. Loved ones gone before: one grandson Michael; parents; parents-in-law; 2 sisters-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law.
