Herman Casanova Obituary

West Columbia - It is with profound sadness that the family of Herman Casanova announces his peaceful passing on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at the age of 87. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 28, 2020 at 11am, with a visitation 1 hour prior in the chapel of Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium Lexington Chapel.

Herman Casanova was born in Manhattan, NY.  He is survived by his children, Fred (Becky) Casanova, Sylvia (Drayton) Shealy, and Teri (David) Uggiano.  He was the proud grandparent of 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Herman served in the US Marine Corp for 2 years.  While he was in the Marines he was deployed to the Korean War.  He then served proudly in the US Air Force for 22 years; traveling around the world with his family.  During his time in the Air Force he was deployed to help with the Cuban Missile Crisis and also did two tours in Vietnam.

In addition to being an Air Man, Herman worked as a correctional officer for the state of South Carolina.  Upon retiring from the Dept. of Corrections, he proceeded to go to work at Policy Management Service for 10 years.  He then began to work at Lexington Medical Center as a bilinguist to advocate for laboring mothers who were unable to communicate in English, helping to ensure a healthy, happy delivery.

Upon retirement at age 77, he transitioned to a volunteer position as a transporter at Lexington Medical Center.  He also volunteered at his church, Bethany Lutheran Church, Knights of Columbus, VFW, and the American Legion.

Herman was a loving, devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to all who knew him.  He was intelligent, creative, wise, and witty.  At the same time, he was endowed with a spirit of reverence and a love for Christ that infused his relationship with the world around him.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

With our deepest respect for our father, we would like to share with you his favorite meal prayer.

Come Lord Jesus, be our Guest.

Our Morning Joy

Our evening Rest

And with this meal impart

Peace and love in every heart!
