Flora G. Sánchez - Obituary

Flora García Loya (Flora G. Sánchez) was born in Baqueteros, Chihuahua, México on October 26th, 1930 to Ernesto García Payan and Virginia Loya Holguin in a small “ranchito” known as “El Rancho de Sombredetillo.  The second to the oldest of seven siblings, Flora would move with her family to Santa Bárbara where she grew up and graduated from secretarial school and went to work at the commissary for the local mine.  She married Rodrigo Sánchez Rodriguez on February 12, 1948.  Rodrigo and Flora began their married life in San Francisco del Oro where they would give birth to the first five of their eight children before moving to the United States on August 18th, 1958.

After to moving to the United States with her husband and five children, the young family settled in Kimball, Nebraska where Flora soon gave birth to twin daughters.  A year later, the family moved to Gilcrest, Colorado where Flora gave birth to her youngest son, completing their family.  During their first years in the United States, Rodrigo worked in agriculture but would eventually leave the farm and go to work in construction.  The family would make one final move to Brighton, Colorado where they became life-long residents. 

Throughout the years Flora held different jobs, but her most important job of all was as a dedicated wife and mother.  Flora, along-side, Rodrigo created and fostered a loving environment. They instilled the importance of maintaining strong ties with the extended family and not to see the different sides of the family as separate units but as one.  Flora and Rodrigo passed down family traditions from their native Mexico and began new traditions which continue to live through the grandchildren.  Most importantly, Flora never forgot her native land, she effectively instilled the importance of keeping cultural values alive and insisted that all her children retain their native language, an attribute which would become a great asset in many of her children’s careers.  

Flora enjoyed different hobbies amongst which included knitting, crocheting, and sewing.  When her children were small, she would often make different articles of clothing for them.  One of her favorite hobbies, though, was singing. She would sing songs from her native Mexico to her children and later her grandchildren.

Following retirement Flora and Rodrigo, once again, became inseparable companions.  They enjoyed taking weekend trips, going to Pueblo to hand-pick and bring back truckloads of chili for roasting and freezing.  They enjoyed going to different schools to sell tamales and burritos, as well as what became popularly referred to as Mexican pita’s (gorditas).  They loved and doted over their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Flora and Rodrigo enjoyed a blissful 65 years of marriage until it came to an end on the very same day that they married, February 12th, 2014, the day Rodrigo passed.  Flora continued to live for another six years but gave up on all things which had once brought enjoyment to her in the past.

Flora passed away peacefully surrounded by her children and other family members on September 21, 2020.  She is preceded in death by her parents and five siblings, a son, Miguel Angel “Mike”, a granddaughter, Amy Jolene, and her husband Rodrigo.  She leaves behind one brother, Odorico García, Guadalajara; seven children; Rodrigo (Magi) Sánchez, Erie, Joe (Irene)Sánchez, Lochbouie, Maria Sánchez, Brighton, Victor (Julie), Sánchez, Brighton, Flora Sánchez, Brighton, Juanita Sánchez, Brighton, Ernesto Sánchez, Brighton, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 

Obituario: Flora G. Sánchez

Flora García Loya (Flora G. Sánchez) nació en Baqueteros, Chihuahua, México el día 26 de octubre de 1930 a Ernesto García Payan y Virginia Loya Holguín en un pequeño ranchito conocido como “El Rancho de Sombredetillo”.  La segunda de siete hermanos, Flora se trasladaría con su familia a Santa Bárbara en donde llegaría a crecer y se graduaría de la Academia con una carrera en secretariado, ejerció su carrera por un corto tiempo en la cooperativa de la mina local.  Flora se casó con Rodrigo Sánchez Rodriguez el 12 de febrero de 1948.  Rodrigo y Flora empezaron su vida matrimonial en San Francisco del Oro en donde Flora le daría a luz a los primeros cinco de sus ocho hijos antes de mudarse a los Estados Unidos.

Después de venir a los Estados Unidos, la joven familia llegaría a vivir en Kimball, Nebraska en donde Flora pronto daría a luz a cuatas.  Un año después, la familia se mudó a Gilcrest, Colorado en donde nació el último de sus ocho hijos, completando la familia.  Durante los primeros años en los Estados Unidos, Rodrigo trabajó en la agricultura, pero con el tiempo empezaría a trabajar en la construcción.  La familia se mudaría una última vez a Brighton, Colorado, lugar en dónde pasaría Flora el resto de su vida. 

A través de los años Flora tuvo distintos empleos, pero su oficio más importante fue la de ser una esposa y madre dedicada.  Flora, junto con Rodrigo, forjó y fomentó un ambiente lleno de amor.  Infundió la importancia de mantener lasos fuertes familiares.  Les enseñó a sus hijos a reconocer los dos lados de la familia, no como entidades separadas, sino que como una sola.  Flora y Rodrigo compartieron tradiciones familiares de su tierra natal con sus hijos e introdujeron nuevas tradiciones que hasta el momento viven por medio de sus nietos.  Más importante que nada, a Flora nunca se le olvidó su tierra natal.  Efectivamente les infundió a sus hijos la importancia de conservar la cultura y tradiciones mexicanas, e insistió que todos sus hijos conservaran el español, un atributo que llegaría a representar un gran haber en las carreras de algunos de sus hijos. 

Flora disfrutó de muchos pasatiempos.  Entre ellos; tejer, tejido de gancho, y la costura.  Cuando sus niños estaban pequeños le gustaba hacerles distintos artículos de vestuario.  Sin embargo, uno de sus pasatiempos favoritos era cantar.  Les cantaba canciones de su querido México a sus niños y después a sus nietos. 

Después de jubilarse, Flora y Rodrigo, una vez más, pudieron volver a ser compañeros inseparables.  Disfrutaban de viajes cortos, sus viajes a Pueblo en donde piscaban chile para tostar y congelarlo.  Disfrutaban ir a las escuelas a vender tamales, burritos, y lo que se llegó a conocer popularmente como pita’s mexicanas (gorditas).  Les encantaba apapachar y consentir a sus nietos y bisnietos.  Flora y Rodrigo disfrutaron de 65 años de matrimonio que llegó a su fin exactamente el mismo día en el que se casaron, el día 12 de Febrero de 2014, cuando falleció Rodrigo.  Flora vivió por otros seis años pero jamás volvió a disfrutar de aquellas cosas que anteriormente le habían traído alegría.

Flora falleció tranquilamente rodeada por todos sus hijos y algunos otros miembros de la familia el día 21 de septiembre de 2020. Entre los miembros familiares que fallecieron antes que ella, se incluyen sus padres y cinco hermanos, un hijo, Miguel Angel “Mike”, una nieta Amy, y su esposo Rodrigo.  Seres queridos que viven incluyen a un hermano, Odorico García, Guadalajara, siete hijos; Rodrigo (Magi) Sánchez de Erie, Joe (Irene)Sánchez de Lochbouie, Maria Sánchez de Brighton, Victor (Julie) Sánchez, Brighton, Flora Sánchez de Brighton, Juanita Sánchez de Brighton, Ernesto Sánchez de Brighton, y numerosos nietos y bisnietos.
