Toby Nelson

Toby Nelson, 63, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Deaconess Midtown Hospital. Toby was born in Henderson, Kentucky on April 6, 1957. He was a 1977 graduate of Central High School. Toby managed Gold's Gym and that is where he met the love of his life, Becky. They were married September 24, 1988 at Christian Fellowship Church where they continue to be active members. Toby enjoyed volunteering at church and was proud of being the head valet parking attendant, a greeter, the six grade middle school Sunday school teacher and faithfully played a Roman soldier in the Easter plays. His entire career was spent in construction. His last ten years he was a construction supervisor for Habitat for Humanity for Warrick County. He previously owned Nelson Construction Company. His love and faith in the Lord along with family meant everything to Toby. His grandsons were the true light of his life. Toby is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Becky (Underwood) Nelson; daughter, Jordyn Clay (Kristian); grandsons, Issach Isaih Clay and Kingston Lee Clay; sister, Donna Nelson all of Evansville, IN; mother, Nancy Gail (Staples) Carter of Henderson, KY; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Virginia Freiberger of Evansville, IN; brother-in-law, Steve Underwood of Jacksonville, FL; niece and nephew, Leigh Underwood and Joshua Underwood; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Toby was preceded in death by his loving father, Jack "Pop" Nelson. A celebration of Toby's life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at Christian Fellowship Church, 4100 Millersburg Rd., Evansville, IN 47725 with Pastor Mike Deeg officiating. Burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, September 28, 2020 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711 and again from 10:00 am until service time on Tuesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat For Humanity of Warrick County, 10622 Telephone Rd., Chandler, IN 47610.
