Charles Girard McCloskey

McCloskey, Charles Girard - age 92, died September 24, 2020. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Monday, September 28, 2020 at St. Augustine Church, 6481 Faussett Rd, Howell, MI 48855 with Fr. Gregg Pleiness celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery. Visitation will be held 9 AM - 11 AM Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association. Charles was born March 7, 1928 in Detroit, the son of Wilford and Louise (Long) McCloskey. He attended Nolan Catholic High School in Detroit and served in the U.S.. Merchant Marines. Charles married Mary T. Zavicar on May 1, 1948 and she preceded him in death on June 16, 2011. Charles retired in 1975 from the Detroit Fire Department after 25 years of service. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Charles belonged to the First Friday Club of Detroit, St. Florian Society, and Retired Police and Firefighters Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a amateur Radio Operator. Surviving are: children, Diana (Tom) Plewka, Dr. Chuck (Cathy) McCloskey, Ron McCloskey, Pat (Kathy) McCloskey, Kathleen (Paul) Bristol, Michael (Cindy) McCloskey, Brian (Brenda) McCloskey; 23 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
