Jerry Glen Oliver, Jr. Obituary

Mr. Jerry Glen Oliver, Jr., 54 of McHenry, lost his battle with cancer Thursday morning, September 24th, at his home surrounded by his loving family.  Jerry was the eldest of two children to Jerry Glen, Sr. and Juanita Jean (Clark) Oliver, born June 3, 1966 in Concord, CA. He spent his first thirteen years in the Golden State before moving to Long Beach, MS. Jerry has always enjoyed working on cars and guns. He loved arcade and video games and was a "river rat", spending lots of time on the river with family and friends. Graduating from Long Beach High School in the mid-80s, he joined and served in the US Army. Following his discharge, Jerry went to work at the Gulfport airport in maintenance department. He simply loved mechanic work and parts, also spending some time working for Advance Auto Parts. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing chess, building model cars and planes, creating art pieces from driftwood and other items, as well as pyrotechincs. Over the years, Jerry built many birdhouses, jewelry boxes and other items that will be cherished for many years to come. A Christian by faith that loved his Bible, Jerry was a family man that loved spending true quality time with his sons. Paintball and go-kart racing were just a couple of the many things they did together. He taught them the basics of mechanic work, as well as how to handle and shoot a gun. He leaves us much too soon and will no doubt be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all whose life he touched. Left to cherish his memories are his two sons: Joshua Oliver and Corey (Kristin) Oliver, both of Gulfport; his loving mother and step-father, Juanita (Greg) Molpus of McHenry, his father, Jerry G. Oliver, Sr. of OR, and his sister Janey (Spencer) Strahan, also of McHenry. Jerry leaves a legacy of four grandchildren that he loved dearly, along with numerous extended family and friends. His final wishes were to be cremated, which his family honored, with a celebration of his life to be held at a later date. Trinity Funeral Services is honored to serve the Oliver family in their time of need, asking everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
