His brother Norman (Shelley) of Plymouth, sister Cindy Johnston of New Hope, step-mother Maysel Gartner of Auburn, WA, mother-in-law Claire Cook of White Bear Lake, and many nieces, nephews and friends will also cherish Gary’s memory. A funeral service will be held in Park Rapids at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church on Tuesday, September 29, at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Two Inlets. Special thanks to the Neuro-oncology team at Mayo Clinic in Rochester for giving us hope and precious time, and to the HealthPartners Hospice Team, especially Dawn, Brenda, Theresa and Ann, for their help, care and compassion. Spend time with your family, take a walk on the beach with your loved ones, and make a toast to enduring friendships lifelong and beyond -- this is what Gary would wish for you. In lieu of flowers, buy yourself some Hershey’s chocolate -- he would have wanted that too. Obituary as published in Star Tribune & Pioneer Press- September 24, 2020 Gartner Gary L.
