Maria C. Medeiros

DARTMOUTH-Maria C. (Lucas) Medeiros, 91, of Dartmouth, died Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the widow of Francisco J. Medeiros and daughter of the late Antonio and Cremilde (São José) Lucas. Born in Folgosinho, Portugal, she emigrated to New Bedford in 1966 and resided in Dartmouth since 1968. She was a parishioner of St. Julie Billiart Church. Mrs. Medeiros was employed as a seamstress at Calvin Clothing until its closing. In her leisure time, she enjoyed crocheting, sewing and trips to the casino. Her family was her greatest joy, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her family includes her daughter, Cecilia M. Matias and her husband, Eduardo M. Matias of Dartmouth; 2 sisters, Cecilia Raposo and her husband, Manuel of New Bedford and Lourdes DaSilva and her husband, Rogerio of Gouveia, Portugal; 2 grandchildren, Susanne Matias-Gomes and her husband Hugo and Jason Matias and his wife, Stefanie; 5 great-grandchildren, Ellie Matias, Canaan Gomes, Sebastian Gomes, Harrison Matias and Sawyer Gomes; several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Joaquina Marques and Manuel dosSantos Vieira. Visiting hours in the funeral home on Sunday, September 27, 2020 from 2:00-4:00 P.M. Her funeral will be conducted on Monday, September 28, 2020 at 9:45 A.M. at the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated in St. Julie Billiart Church at 11:00 A.M.
