Barry Wayne Pike (Pikey) Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador Obituary

Barry Wayne Pike (Pikey)

Mar. 21, 1956 – Sept. 22, 2020, Pike, Barry Wayne (Pikey), passed peacefully away with his family by his side. Predeceased by his mother Martha (Fry), and his sister-in-law Jennifer Downs. Left to mourn with precious memories are his loving wife of over 40 years, Toni, son Stephen (Lisa Fudge) Gander, daughter Heather Butler (Matthew) Paradise, grandsons Hudson and Riley Butler, father Colin Pike, Gander, brother-in-law Shane Downs (Marcheta O’Brien) St. John’s, and a large circle of friends. After a career of over 36 years, Wayne retired from Nav Canada in 2015, and lived his retirement to the fullest. Besides genealogy, playing the guitar, birdwatching and photography, Wayne enjoyed travelling – and he and Toni saw and did things that he thought they would only read about. From bicycling across the Golden Gate Bridge, to climbing upon the Great Pyramid of Giza and cruising the Nile. From parasailing off the coast of Thailand, to ballooning across the landscape of central Turkey. But nothing fulfilled his life or made him so happy as his family. He and Toni practically went everywhere and did everything together. He so enjoyed her company. And he was so proud of Stephen and Heather. From small children to grown adults, their accomplishments put a smile on his face and a sparkle in his eye. In keeping with Wayne’s wishes, cremation has taken place. No flowers by request. Donations in Wayne’s memory may be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities Newfoundland and Labrador online at http://www.rmhcnl.ca/ or by phone (709) 738-0000. Wayne enjoyed doing small deeds for strangers. So pay it forward when you have an opportunity. “Remember me with smiles and laughter, and thoughts of the good times that we’ve had.”
