Delia Joyce Cope

Delia Joyce Cope, 60, passed away in her home in Athens, Texas surrounded by loved ones on September 22, 2020. She fought a long and courageous battle with cancer before succumbing to her illness. She was born December 30, 1959 in Corsicana, Texas, and grew up in neighboring town of Kerens. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law William (Bill) Cope, who she thought of as a father, her grandparents Viola and Joe Trent, Mildred and Roy Hobbs, and her lifelong, dear friend Joan Auerbach. She is survived by her husband Billy Cope, her mother and father, June Trent Abbie, and Leroy Hobbs Sr., her mother-in-law Deanne Kay Cope. Her sister-in-law Kim and brother-in-law Bill Carlow and her step-daughter Jennifer Jones and spouse Ryan Jones, and her grandchildren Ava and Crew. Her brother Leroy Hobbs Jr. and spouse Tanya Hobbs, her brother Trent Hobbs, her sister Renay Crawford and spouse Tim Crawford, her sister Carolyn Kilcrease and spouse Bert Kilcrease and her sister Glenda Curry and spouse Doug Curry. Mike Capehart and spouse Laura Capehart. As well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great great-nieces and nephews and her true friend Nita and Lynn Benezue. While she had no children, she played a significant role in the lives of her nieces, nephews, and their children. They thought of her as a second mother and she loved them as if they were her own. Delia’s greatest joy was taking care of the love of her life, Billy. She loved to sing for the Lord and spent her life living the faith. She was a loving and caring person who never met a stranger. She was spiritual and wanted everyone she loved to know about Jesus. She always had a smile on her face despite sickness and struggles. She remains a pillar of grace for her family and we aspire to live life just half as selfless and courageous as she did. Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, September 28, 2020, from 4-8 P.M. at Autry’s Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home. Lunch will take place at noon Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at The Living for the Brand Cowboy Church in Athens, Texas. Funeral Services will take place at 2:00 P.M.
