Robert Paul Bowling Obituary

Robert Paul (“Bob”) Bowling passed peacefully on September 21, 2020, at his home in Johns Creek, GA, of complications from Parkinson’s disease and dementia. He was 79. Born on November 6, 1940 in Oxford, AL, Bob grew up in Anniston and was a graduate of Anniston High School. Bob went on to work his way through college, alternating one quarter of school with one quarter of employment, until he earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University in 1964. A proud alumnus, Bob always considered this one of his greatest accomplishments and continued to support Auburn University, especially on Saturday game day. Bob’s career spanned 38 years at Georgia Power, where he worked in both Rome and Atlanta, as General Manager of Distribution. He also had the honor to serve on the Georgia Power Delivery Committee for the 1996 Centennial Olympics held in Atlanta. Following retirement, Bob remained active in his community, serving on both the Johns Creek Development Authority and the Johns Creek Foundation Board and joining Johns Creek United Methodist Church. Always looking up, Bob loved to spot birds on his property and anywhere he visited and was always thrilled by the Blue Angels flight demonstration squadron. Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Betty Baggett Bowling, his son Jeffrey P. Bowling and daughter-in-law Vonda K. Bowling of Rowlett, TX, his daughter Dana C. Culberson and son-in-law J.C. Culberson of Ft. Worth, TX, grandchildren Elena R. Yeargan, Harrison P. Bowling, Connor J. Yeargan, Peyton S. Culberson, Mason R. Bowling, Davis R. Yeargan, and Elizabeth K. Culberson, sister Mary Ann Whitmore, brother Roy D. Bowling, sister Susan Hall and brother-in-law Ronald Hall, and many nieces and nephews. He joins his parents Louis and Catherine Bowling and siblings Louis R. Bowling, Jr., and Agnes Birchfield. A private service to honor Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at Johns Creek United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Johns Creek United Methodist Church.
