Seija Kaarina Kromm Calgary, Alberta Obituary

Seija Kaarina Kromm

Seija Kaarina (Ijäs) Kromm passed away peacefully on September 20, 2020, at the age of 88 years. Seija was born in Hamina, Finland, the eldest of 6 children. She worked hard to help support the family in post-war Finland, first as a telephone operator and then with the Finnish postal service. Adventure called and she travelled by boat to Canada where she met her husband, Howard. They took care of each other throughout their marriage and created a home of unconditional love. She embraced her life in Canada, but her home was a Finnish home, complete with a sauna. Cross-country skiing, bike trips, swimming, and playing hockey were activities she enjoyed in Finland and Canada. Seija and Howard went on many road trips, and she especially enjoyed going to visit friends and family. In their later years her brother, Asko, joined them in their travels. Seija was an avid reader and encouraged her family to work hard and seek educational opportunities she didn’t have. She was direct, but compassionate and always willing to help others. As a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she served as needed, giving her all to each opportunity. She was an influence for good in the lives of many and will be missed by her three daughters, Helen (Gerald), Anne, and Seija; two grandsons, Adam (Amanda) and Gideon; and two great-grandsons, William and Milo. Seija was predeceased by her husband, and her sister, Anja. We want to express our deepest gratitude to the caring staff at The Academy of Aging, at Bethany Riverview, and at the Peter Lougheed Centre. Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Crescent Road Chapel (202 Crescent Road NW) on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., with Interment to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery.
