<p>John David Cox, 73, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 21, 2020, at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Waxahachie, Texas, surrounded by his family who loved him very much. A Celebration of Life service for John Cox will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 24, 2020, at the Lacy Funeral Home Chapel in Stephenville, Texas with Rob Gleason officiating.&nbsp;Visitation with the family will precede the service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.</p> <p>John was born in Stephenville, Texas, on December 11, 1946, to George Thomas. and Juanita (Foster) Cox. He graduated from Stephenville High School where he lettered as a varsity football player and band member. He continued his education at Tarleton State University and North Texas University, majoring in music. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Cox.</p> <p>John retired in 2016 from his role as a Texas A&amp;M AgriLife Extension Service employee at the Texas A&amp;M AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Stephenville, Texas. John was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church in Stephenville where he volunteered in numerous capacities to serve the church community. He loved serving as a member of the church choir!</p> <p>Following retirement, John moved to Red Oak, Texas, to continue his involvement with his family in Red Oak, College Station, and Bastrop, Texas. He loved his children and grandkids and attended many church, sports, and school-related activities with them! He was always ready to head to the family ranch in Coryell County for many family gatherings, where his culinary skills were enjoyed, as well as his story-telling! &nbsp;He was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing, traveling, and lots of relaxation with his special friend, Linda Brewer.</p> <p>John is survived by his children, Bethany A. Smith, and husband, Chris, of Red Oak, Texas, and Christopher R. Cox, and wife, Aris, of College Station, Texas, eight grandchildren--Nathan, Caitlyn, Cooper, Brooke, Ella , Kori, Rhylee, and Gabriel and his brother, Tommy M. Cox, wife Joyce, of Wiley, Texas and nephews&mdash;Michael Ross, wife. Lynnetta, and great-nephew Sloan.</p> <p>In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, Community Partners of Ellis County/Rainbow Room, P. O Box 3231 Waxahachie, Texas, 75168, or a charity of your choice.</p>
