Joe James Obituary

Joe James, 73, of Little Cincinnati, met his Heavenly Father on September 17, 2020 at his residence, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

Born August 31, 1947, in Solsberry, he was the son of Russell and Dorothy Josephine (Helms) James. He was named after his mother as Dorman Joe James. Joe was the last one to leave the table while helping his mother and father with inside and outside chores. Their favorite food was beans and taters, daily.

Joe married Christy Ann Evans on December 21, 1984 and she survives.

Joe was a 1966 graduate of Eastern High School. He was a man who willingly admitted his greatest nightmare was taking tests. And that he didn’t like school at all, other than lunch time.

When Joe worked he gave it his all. For relaxation he enjoyed mowing grass (several acres) with his Scag. Unfortunately, that was not something he could still do the last two summers.

He was known by many as such a good, honest, and hard working man with top quality workmanship. He would never let one foul word exit from his mouth. He was an excellent operator of numerous machines. It just came natural, as an exceptional performance by him.

But most of all, Joe knew and loved Jesus!!

He was of the Trinity Pentecostal Faith. He raised all 3 boys knowing Proverbs 22:6 was essential, and treated them with DQ, McDonald’s, LJS, and Judys’ Mini Mart consistently.

In 1985 he began in an asphalt partnership known as A&J (Arthur & James) Paving in Bedford for one season. Then branched off to grow with an asphalt plant & paving company in Eastern Greene known as A-1 Paving. After selling out, he started the next day as Hoosier Hills Paving. Several years later he partnered with his nephew in a company known as American Asphalt & Paving until the disease took over.

Surviving are his wife and business partner, Christy, whom was his sole caregiver until his last breath; children, Seth (April) James, Brice (Joni) James, all of Little Cincinnati; grandchildren, Wyatt Pate, Tanner Bough II, Mia Pate, Briler James, Braylee James, and Brayson James; brothers, Russell (Catherine) James, Jerry (Rita) James, Bobby (Rhea) James, Donnie (Paula) James; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Judy Black; and son Tanner Bough.

Visitation will be from 4-8 P.M. on Friday, September 25, 2020 at the Little Cincinnati Christian Church. In honor of Pappy Joe's childhood, it will be a time of fun and fellowship to share memories of his childhood while serving Hot Beans and Taters.

ALL WELCOME!!

Joe's Celebration of Life will be held at the Little Cincinnati Christian Church at 1 P.M. on Saturday, September, 26, 2020 with graveside services following at Bingham Cemetery.
