Funeral services celebrating the life of Thelma D. Garlington will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 24, 2020, at New Prospect Baptist Church, with Reverend Leonard Free and Brother Trey Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Frazier Cemetery, Prospect. Visitation will be held at Hixson Brothers, Pineville on Wednesday, September 23, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and resume on Thursday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Called home to her Heavenly Father on September 16, 2020. Thelma was born October 20, 1920 to Henry L. Dickerson & Effie Bishop Dickerson of Winnfield, La., where she spent her youth. She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years in 2014, Nathan Garlington; granddaughter, Christy Messer Williams; great granddaughter, Brittany McMillan; her parents: her sisters, Ruth Dickerson Fox, Mary Lea Dickerson Cogley and Lurlene Dickerson Robbins; brothers, Henry Dickerson and Roy Dickerson and step-son, Carroll (Booty) Wayne Garlington. . Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Frances Fiorello Messer and husband, William C. Messer Jr.; son, Frank J. Fiorello Jr. and wife, Laury Fiorello; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Garlington; step-son, Norman Garlington and wife, Sandra Garlington; step-daughters, Opal Garlington Miller, Alicia Garlington Jones, Threcia Garlington Green, Wanda Garlington Johnson and husband, Greg; 20 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family has designated New Prospect Baptist Church, 111 Prospect Church Rd, Dry Prong, LA 71423 or Frazier Cemetery, or charity of donor’s choice, for memorial contributions.
