Theodore C. Ackroyd Jr., 100 years of age, of Methuen, Massachusetts passed away on Monday, September 14, 2020 at D’Youville Senior Care Center after a short illness. Before his hospitalization he enjoyed living at Grace Morgan House. He is now in heaven with his Savior, Jesus Christ. Ted is survived by his daughters Cherylle and her husband Walter "Skip" Hird, of New Bern, NC, Ellen and her husband Robert Greenwood of Methuen, MA, daughter-in-law Angie Ackroyd of Newburyport, MA, and grandchildren, Bethany, Amanda, and Melissa Greenwood of Methuen, MA, and Cuyler Ackroyd of Las Vegas, NV. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his good friend Edith with whom he shared a special friendship with in the last few years of his life.

Ted was predeceased by his wife, Ethyl, his son, Rand Ackroyd, sisters Alice Fogle and Audrey Franke, and his parents Annie and Theodore Ackroyd Sr.

Ted was born and raised in Methuen, Massachusetts and was a graduate of Searle's High School. Prior to his marriage and before joining the Army he worked at the Arlington Mills. During World War II, Ted was in the Infantry and fought with honor at the Battle of the Bulge, receiving several medals. For most of his working career he was a machinist and millwright at J.H. Horne & Sons.

He was a member of St. George’s Ebenezer Primitive Methodist Church for many years where he was involved in repair and remodeling projects, church suppers, fairs, talent shows, sang in the choir, and bowled in the church ten pin league. In later years he attended Marsh Corner Community Church where he was a member of the Senior Saints ministry. After his retirement, and well into his 90’s, he enjoyed and completed many woodworking projects. He made beautiful furniture as well as picture frames, whatnot shelves and different styles of birdhouses for family and friends. For many years he and Ethyl enjoyed camping, traveling, round dancing and square dancing with their friends, and bowled in the senior candlepin leagues. He also enjoyed gardening and kept his yard well landscaped and grew a variety of vegetables and fruits. Family was very important to him, and he and his wife Ethyl hosted a family Sunday dinner for over 30 years where there could be 13 or more family members and friends enjoying the meal and playing games afterward. He was a true old fashioned gentleman, leaving a lasting impression on those who met and knew him. He was loved by many and liked by all. He will be missed by his family and good friends.

Due to the limitations of the Covid virus, burial at Walnut Grove Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family.
