Verna Evelyn Fluharty Obituary

Verna Evelyn (Hawkins) Fluharty, 95 of Colliers, WV, passed away at 3:36 PM on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Golden Oaks, Follansbee, WV under the care of the staff with the assistance of Amedisys Hospice. Verna was born on September 18, 1925 in Metz, WV. She was the daughter of the late John Henry Hawkins and Martha Agnes Hawkins. Verna retired from the Brooke County Schools as a school bus driver. Many will remember Verna for her love of music accompanying her husband, Lawrence at Fairs, Festivals, and the Grand Ole Opry, her enjoyment of quilting and devotion to gardening. In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Alfred Fluharty, a daughter, Amanda Carolene Reed and her nine siblings, Dixie, Walter, Pansey, George Sr., Wayne, Harold, Roy, Elizabeth and Marie. Verna is survived and dearly missed by her two children, Donovan Lawrence Fluharty and Sandra Elaine Fluharty Summers, both of Colliers, WV, eight grandchildren, Ronald, Kenneth (Tally), David, Michael (Candy), Richard (Lisa), Robert (Trisha), Paula (Anthony) and James, 15 great grandchildren, Sara, Rae, Logan, Kinsey, Tori, Leah, Emily, Jacob, Maggie, Conner, Alex, Lauren, Haley, Tyler and Mark, a great great granddaughter, Tegan, a sister, Violet Swearengen and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 from 5:00-8:00 PM and again on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 from 10:00 AM until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, WV (304) 527-1717 with Reverend Scott Mapes, officiating. Please note that limited access and social distancing will be in place during visitation and funeral service. All attendees will be required to wear a mask or face covering. Hand sanitizer stations will be available. In addition, if you are unable to attend or not feeling well, please consider sending a card or leaving an online condolence. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery, Colliers, WV. In lieu of cut flowers, family suggest planting trees or flowers in Verna's memory to bloom and grow year after year.
